A great day/overnight pack
From Jeremiah Johnson of Priest River, Idaho on .
I've been running the 14'r since last Spring and have found that I end up using this pack almost exclusively (I have several Kifaru packs and a few from MR). I usually carry a tripod inside the main compartment, first aid kit and survival essentials/kill kit in the inside long pockets and then carry a jacket, extra thermal layer and my camera gear inside the center/main cavity of the pack. The top lid pocket is large enough for some food and other items that I want quick access to. And 9/10 times I make use of the internal hydration bladder pocket as well. I've used it as a carry-on bag while traveling a few times, which it worked great for. The suspension is very comfortable and has enough load lift to make a moderately heavy load comfortable to carry a short distance (like the first trip out of the woods, with an elk quarter). It's just a great, rugged pack; that's perfect for a day trip into the hills, with enough room for overnight gear if needed. I'd recommend this pack to anyone.
Easy use in many ways

I’ve had this pack for only a couple of months now. I got it as a replacement EDC bag to my Kelly Redwing 2900 - which is a front loader with side pouches and 2 front organizer pouches. The 14r is smaller without those organizer pouch features - or so you may think... This pack comes with a fairly room zip lid pocket. In also has a zip net pouch under the lid. Additionally- the pack has a hanging chamber pocket inside - so small items are organized almost as well as my old Kelty. The water bladder pocket inside also doubles as an internal organizer. There are two vertical deep pockets inside for additional organization - but there is something creative about them... They’re only accessible from the top lid. So for example, if you’re reaching for junk through the long front zipper while the pack is vertical (or being worn) - stuff packed into the deep internal pockets will not spill out and only gear in the main cavity will be accessible. If you’re using this pack for urban sightseeing - I recommend using some clip links, or travel padlock to keep the main zipper closed, and keep the obvious thieves at bay while your in a crowd. There will be no stopping the real pros however - no matter want brand / style of pack you get. So this pack does for me everything my old kelty redwing did in a more compressible package, but if I did need the extra room - I purchased the two spotting scope pockets which would enlarge this pack from 2400ci to about 3600ci. That’s about 700ci more that the kelty...
Best daypack ever

I use this pack for work (Powerline construction) to haul water, lunch, snacks, rain gear, Yeti, first aid, beacon, possibles, Poseidon battery pack, and I can still strap my climbing gear and tools to it using the compression straps.
Perfect Day, Travel, Hike Bag

Wanted a small bag that I could use for day trips. This bag is perfect for hikes, travel and short strips if you don't plan on packing in the kitchen sink. I also use this bag as my gym bag or carry on when traveling.
Top Notch
From Edgar Spielman of New Orleans, Louisiana on .
Great build quality and attention to detail. Added two spotting scope pockets and small pouches to waist belt for a 25 mile, multi-day hike in Big Bend. The bag reached its limit for me at around 45 pounds. Above that and you start dealing with constant strap adjustments and internal debates of "mind over matter."
That being said, I think its pretty clear that Kifaru didn't make this bag for heavy load outs. In normal/regular use (i.e. duck/deer day hunts, overnight kayak trips, and the occasional overnight or two day trip with the kiddos on local trails) its hands down the best day bag (with options for slightly longer) I've ever owned. Highly recommend (with limits).
Highly Recommend (14R)

Purchased the 14R for a Marco Polo hunt this past November. My intention was to have a pack that would carry my spotting scope and misc gear that I generally pack on my sheep hunts. My additional concern was for a pack that would be comfortable while on horseback. I love the fit and easy access to the contents, the pack is everything I have come to expect from Kifaru.
As a side note my Timberline 1 has been perfect for my 10 day sheep hunts.

Marvelous pack

As a SAR volunteer, I use my 14'r as an EDC bag with regular office stuff plus coms and other basic call-out gear. The size is just perfect, keeping the load manageable while having room for the essentials needed for quick deployment. The pack makes it easy to carry a heavy load, even when strapping bulky and heavy com-gear to the outside.
I like the center zip and the compression strap setup, and the internal organizer pockets are nice to have.
The pack has the usual Kifaru quality as expected. My packs gets thrown in and out of cars, trucks, quads and snowmobiles, and since I switched to Kifaru the days of damaged packs are over.
My only gripe is the shoulder straps. The padded part closest to the bag curls/bends easily and creates a pressure point that has to be straightened out. This "flap" should be attached to the webbing or given some rigidity to keep it flat. I have the same problem with the straps on my Urban zippy, but as the loadout on the 14'r is heavier the problem is magnified.
Very Happy

I've had this pack for a couple of months now and finally got to put it through its paces. I only packed about 35lbs but hiked the Ben Tyler Trail from the south side to 285. I also bagged a couple peaks at the top and got to admire a herd of 9 mount worthy bulls hanging out, hiding from all the road hunters. The pack is very impressive in build quality and carries great. I never once really noticed it on my back. I think it will work great for packing out meat, as I'm transitioning to packing lighter and switching to internal frame designs. I think the pack will have it's limits as far as big load hauling, but I'm willing to work with those limits to pack lighter and faster. The pack will be plenty strong, and I really like the design of the vertical zipper and found myself using it more than the top flap. I like it over the Mystery Ranch design that opens all the way at the top. It allows me to open it frequently to access what's inside without stuff falling out and me having to re-pack and rearrange all the time. It has a big hydration sleeve on the inside that would work well as a meat shelf, keeping it close to the back, as well as two other sleeves that would probably do well for de-boned meat. Kifaru doesn't advertise this, but the bottom is absolutely double layered with a third layer of the smaller denier lining and is stitched up like crazy so this pack does have the capability to carry some heavy loads. When it first arrived I did take it on a trip through the airport as carry-on. It did fine but it does stand out a little It's a bit large to stash under the seat if it's packed full. I had to put it in the overhead. It is a fairly tall pack for 2400ci. I am very happy with this pack. It carries well, is built well and looks sexy too.

This is my first pack from Kifaru and it won't be my last. I have used the pack on a couple of scouting trips. I was able to carry everything for two days of scouting. Exactly what I was looking for. Now it's in the deer stand with me and it has everything for an all day sit. With all the accessories you can add makes this pack the go to pack for a weekend for adventure. Thanks Kifaru
Great bag
From Anonymous of Whitewright, Texas on .
This is my second kifaru, my first which I still have is the Navigator. The 14er is perfect for single or multiple day trips. I use almost everyday and it holds up like a champ. I am tough on my bags and have torn up all diamond back, mammut and even cilo bags that i have had. The navigator i had held up through 2 deployments and still strong so i anticipate the 14er will bring years of comfort and great memories.
14r'
From Anonymous of Virginia beach, Virginia on .
The 14r' is an awesome bag. Big enough for several days at a time. Small enough to carry everyday to and from work; I do get an occasional weird look though cause the bag is almost as big as me. Very well constructed and built from top quality materials. Fully adjustable to anyone or any size. The comfort factor is out of this world and I have forgotten that I am actually wearing it before. There is no better bag on the open market in American. Another bonus is that it's made in America by an American staff; which Kevin is outstanding as far as customer service go's. I cannot say enough good things about this bag or company and they have me as a lifetime customer now.
