From Ty Berry of Malad, Idaho on 1/6/2017.
Much like the grab it it seems that the lid is kind of an after thought although I've seen some improvements to how it attaches on a couple of the newer bags. Overall I like the size and shape. Myself I would never use the shoulder straps but that is an easy modification. I do like the Velcro stash pocket that the extra webbing is kept in. It makes for a good spot for rarely used items. But just like everything made from kifaru it function exactly as it was intended and anything I would do I really just personal preference.
Great accessory for air travel !!!
From Anonymous of Witchita, Kansas on 12/30/2016.
I have a 22 mag main pack that I use mostly to carry on air planes. The guide lid adds a lot of storage capacity to the pack set-up. Most importantly, the geometry of the pack+lid still fits very well in the overhead compartment of the plane (even in smaller overhead compartments of regional/older jets). Guide lid has great design and construction, as with all Kifaru products.
From David Evans of Dallas, Texas on 11/27/2016.
For elk hunting, this is a terrific pack to fit on light frame with cargo hauler pack on outside and water bladder hanging underneath this small pack. Terrific pack!
One of my favorites!!
From Max Wallace of Flagstaff, Arizona on 11/13/2016.
I purchased this with the intent on using it as a day pack and adding extra volume to my Exo Mountain Gear pack system and absolutely love it. The quality is second to none and it is simplicity at its finest. Also, this thing is huge! I have worn this as a day pack and it is extremely comfortable and you can load it down with quite a bit of gear. I highly recommend this to anyone.
From will reid of Chiloquin, Oregon on 10/24/2016.
I used the guide lid on a recent mule deer hunt. I ran a duplex with a cargo hauler and it made a great addition. Allowing me to have a large pocket to store items that I could get to easily, I also used the pocket that stores the straps to hold a three liter water bladder. It also did a good job of folding over my tripod and spotter, was glad I had it.
Kifaru Guide Lid Rocks!!!
From Anonymous of Alexandria, MN, Minnesota on 10/23/2016.
I've owned a Kifaru EMRII since 2012. Just added the guide lid and 400 pocket this year. Takes a great pack way over the top!!! The additional space of the Guide Lid is perfect for spare socks, gloves, puffy....anything that needs easy access. Get the GL when you buy your pack....it's that good!!!
From Jake of Garden City, South Dakota on 10/11/2016.
The guide lid is a great addition to any Kifaru pack or as a stand alone "day" pack.
Great for many uses
From Anonymous of New York City, New York on 9/29/2016.
I use this lid as a minimalist edc and for spike camp hunting. It holds gym clothes or a laptop, a few notebooks, and a handful of books perfectly. And I take with me on long hunting trips when I pack in a camp and a week's worth of gear. It's great as a lid (its intended use) and for when I only want to carry a few basic supplies during the day. For me it's perfect--one of those rare pieces of gear that effectively meets many, very different needs.
Easy access pocket
From Jason Herrera of San Jose, California on 9/13/2016.
This is a great go to pocket. I've been using it along with the Apollo and it makes a great combo. I usually pack my 15's along with a few other items and still have a little room left over. Great overall size. Not too big not too small.
From Marty Hobby of Queen creek, Arizona on 9/11/2016.
Love this lid, used it for many hikes my wife and I did in Kauai and just recently did a hunt in the Kaibab for Mulies, it worked fantastic. I put compression straps on the front to carry clothes and the Velcro pocket for my water bladder and the small pocket inside for keys wallet knife and other stuff and the big pocket for gps snacks game bags. It's badass. I threw this thing all over the place in AZ. Everything is there to rip you up from rocks to thorns. It held up great, and for naps it makes a great pillow.
great little day pack
From John Anderson of NYC, New York on 9/10/2016.
I bought the guide lid because of the Kifaru video showing them use it as a daypack, and it's my first Kifaru pack but not my last. I bought the lid in coyote tan. It comes in 500D, but it was almost half the price to get it in 1000D so I went with that. The straps aren't very big but work just fine and fit just fine and i'm 6'and 375lbs. There's plenty of room in the pack but I still added a medium pocket to the front and it comes with a little pocket on the inside. I've been using it every day since I received it, and I pack it pretty good and it can take it. I already want to move to a bigger pack as soon as I can afford it. Thank you Kifaru for making the best gear around on the planet. I mean it the best !
From MICHAEL CLINEBELL of SEWICKLEY, Pennsylvania on 9/9/2016.
This lid is so much bigger than I expected, so much room in it. I was able to stuff a first lite puffy jacket, a first lite, merino quarter zip in it, plus my first aid kit, kill kit, and head lamp, plus I put my keys and wallet and personal effects in the inner pocket, with room to spare. I added a large pocket to the front for even more easy access. Well built, and worth every penny.
Great addition for my pack
From Anonymous of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee on 8/14/2016.
great addition for your pack, adds extra storage for rain gear, a fleece or whatever. Put it on pack for easy access.
From Jared of San Bruno, California on 5/23/2016.
I use this thing all the time. On its own, as a lid for main pack. It deceptively holds a lot of crap. Could get you in trouble overloading your pack. But it's great for short trips when you don't need a large bag. I may get the lash kit to use it alone on my duplex. Could be a nice day pack option. One of the best dual purpose products I've ever bought. It excels at both tasks.
From Jason Taylor of Redmond, Oregon on 4/9/2016.
Great way to add some extra space to your packs for items that you need quick access to. Also works great to be able to take off your pack and use the shoulder straps to carry just the lid. Like all of kifaru's gear, it's very strong and long lasting.
From Preston Radford of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on 3/26/2016.
Looks and Works as advertised. Glad to have the Guide Lid as an addition to my Mountain Rambler or on its own as a day pack. Quality product from a Quality Brand. Thank You Kifaru Int. for your products and keep your commitment to service alive!
Does the job well
From Kevin Fittje of Humphrey, Nebraska on 3/25/2016.
works great. good volume, quality materials, solidly built.
From Karl Slenkamp of Portland OR, Oregon on 3/7/2016.
Perfect for topping off an overstuffed pack or holding all of my day-pack stuff and suspending the weight over the shoulders! there's so many great ways to use this SUPERBLY built product I can't list them all!
From Anonymous of Chandler, Arizona on 1/25/2016.
Wish I had ordered this with my pack instead of the standard lid. Adds just enough storage without adding too much bulk. Great for quick access items. I don't care for the option of using it for a seperate pack.
From Tj Perez of Phoenix, Arizona on 1/17/2016.
Best lid out there! Adds 1200 cubic inches to your pack and allows for a lot of gear and can detach and can be worn as a backpack with straps that are hidden in a velcro pocket! Don't hesitate to upgrade from the regular lid to the Guide Lid! You won't regret it! Highly recommended!TJ Perez
From Joe of Ferndale, Washington on 12/20/2015.
Great pack add. I combo mine with my the ultra-light frame and some extra webbing/buckles for a lightweight daypack that can haul elk quarters.
From Lance Harris of Clearfield, Utah on 11/30/2015.
I love how versatile everything is that Kifaru makes. The guide lid is no different. If you're thinking about getting it just do it. You won't regret it.
It is a nice accessory
From Johnny C of Lake county Illinois, Illinois on 11/29/2015.
It is a lid you can use as a scouting bag and still connect stuff to it. It does look a little silly when full on top of my pack but to be able to have a good smaller bag to carry around on a short wander away from camp is cool. Many uses for it glad I bought it
From Andrew of San Diego, California on 10/19/2015.
I actually got this product for something other than its intended purpose, but it works great! I'm using it as a top lid for my mystery ranch metcalf. I never liked the two compartment design on the mystery ranch lids. It fits with a little bit of tinkering, and the two lower female buckles fit the metcalfs corresponding male buckles.
From Scott Adams of Clifton, Arizona on 10/14/2015.
Great little item to have. We used it as a stand along pack on an AZ archery elk hunt and it worked perfectly for that.
From Beau of The Blues, Washington on 9/27/2015.
This review goes with the Nomad and bikini frame. Get this to add to those set ups. Glad I went with the guide lid. When in camp take off and throw around waist or shoulder. Best bonus to add to packs. The grab it is also an added bonus. A lot of room in the guide lid for anything and everything. Dude, why did I wait so long for this? You will not find a pack company w all the add on capabilities Kifaru has, period. As a guide and outfitter I rely on gear that works. This Gear is top notch!
From Anonymous of Danville, California on 7/8/2015.
Very new to Kifaru products and I am incredibly impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship. The Guide Lid is incredibly versatile and I found myself using it on my scouting trip more than I expected. Well done!
Best lid yet!
From Tony Trietch of Traverse City, Michigan on 6/29/2015.
The perfect spot to keep my rain gear and water purification system. Built like all Kifaru gear, built to last.
Great Lid and Daypack
From Anonymous of Freetown, Wyoming on 6/11/2015.
Very functional lid and daypack. No frills, great price too. Best lid Kifaru has made to date!
From Brandon Pattison of Bannister, Michigan on 5/5/2015.
I think Kifaru's R&D are done with this one. I see no way to improve upon it. The way I see this being used separately for me is to drop down to the nearest creek to get water. Otherwise it is on my pack and used for raingear, and puffy coat. I also use my Duplex EMR II for treestand hunting and hang it on a screw-in step at shoulder height when sitting. I open the lid up and use it for my handy stuff like grunt tubes, spitter, wind puffer, doe urine spray and range finder.
From ISAMU SATO of Agano-City, Niigata, Japan on 4/18/2015.
Quality was perfect and good for one day hunting.
From Anonymous of Folsom, Louisiana on 4/17/2015.
The Guide Lid compliments my Navigator backpack and I'll probably use it for quick access for my spotting scope and camera gear. All of my Kifaru gear that I've bought over the years is well designed with attention to details. And the best part is it's Proudly made in the good ole US of A. Oh the service that you get from the staff is great too.
From Shawn Stimmel of Hubert, North Carolina on 3/24/2015.
This lid/pack is perfect!!! Easy to attach and take off of the main pack and big enough to store a decent amount of gear for a leaders recon. The Back Velcro area is a great spot for map and map equipment with easy and quick access when carrying it alone. Very happy i made the decision to upgrade to the Guide Lid. Great design Kifaru, Thanks!!!
Guide lid is great!!
From Anonymous of Delta, British Columbia on 3/7/2015.
This is a great lid. It sits properly on the bag where you can access the contents without everything spilling out. The best part is that when you dump your pack you can just wear the guide lid with the essentials inside.
From Terry Wallace of Kalispell, Montana on 1/23/2015.
I recently purchased a Guide lid for a duplex frame despite their incompatibility. The superb staff went out of their way to create a simple kit that allowed the lid to function just the way I desired. Don't hesitate to equip yourself with any of the built-to-order backcountry gear finely crafted by Kifaru.
