Perfect short trip pack
From Jeff Chang of Queen Creek, Arizona on 1/15/2017.
I've owned many Kifaru packs and used them both overseas and domestically. Prior to this purchase I used an Argali for a 13 day backpack bow trip for elk. Lived out of it the entire time. The Tahr compliments that as something for shorter 3-4 day trips, specifically the fly fishing trips I do several times a year. The meat shelf seems perfect for wet waders and boots too. These get bulky and heavy and strapping them on the outside as I've done previously leaves them open to damage and a shifting load. Totally modular for external pouch attachment and an increase in capacity too. An internal frame pack would likely have done just as well but NOTHING beats a Kifaru frame for all day, any load comfort. Kifaru dude for life, right here.

Great Pack! Bought with the guide lid and three pockets....carries everything I need for a day pack, spotting scope, 15X binos, water, radios, GPS, kill kit, food, tripod, etc...plenty of room if I wanted to bivy for a 3-4 day hunt as well....so glad I bought this pack...previously I had tried 4 other high dollar packs..sold them all to get this one....by far the best pack I have owned.....

I bought this pack to use to hunt for red deer and tahr. I normally go for 3 to four day Hunts. My last trip I loaded a deboned deer and all my gear in my pack and walked out 12km to my vehicle. I woke up the next day with only my feet being sore, my pack weighed 128 pounds. This is the most comfortable pack I've used . I just wish I bought it sooner. Save your back get a kifaru

Got the pack for a elk hunt in a new unit. Mainly for use a day pack, but also something I could use to bivvy out for a couple nights. The pack compresses very well and keeps day hunting gear centered on your back. I added a lid off a USMC ILBE because I had one laying around and the pack comes with a small chamber pocket. This was sufficient for my organization needs and the ILBE buckles matched perfectly. As other people have stated, this bag seems much bigger than advertised. You could easily get 3 to 4 nights worth of gear in it. I was concerned about the lack of outside pockets. After using the pack I do not feel this is an issue. There is plenty of room inside and the compression straps offer numerous options for lashing down spotting scopes, tripods and trekking poles. I was skeptical since it is essentially one big bag with out pockets. After using it, I really like style of bag. Great pack, great price, and really light weight.

First hand I was looking at other packs with zips for easy access but now I'm so glad I chose the Tahr. Had the "trying to find a bag that does everything" mindset and as always..back to basics is trusted and true. Trading in my nomad for this baby! Holds everything snug, plenty of space for extended missions and has expanded meat shelf if (and when 😉) needed! Loving it!! No zips to fail..should be rocking this pack for years. Thanks Kifaru
Nice lightweight bag

I don't know why Kifaru needs a review for this product. As it has been, their products mirror their reputation. If you know what Kifaru is then you already know it's worth the money.
Great Pack (P.S.)
From jeremiah a. of kalispell, Montana on 8/3/2016.
after giving my review on this pack I realized I could make the top roll like a dry bag top with a smaller load so I just wanted to give it the five stars that it more than deserves. if the load is large enough to not be able to roll the top then my guide lid is the answer. thanks for a great product kifaru. I am a sold out customer for life!

Love this pack! took it on a 7 mile hike in for three days and had plenty of room for all my gear. used it as a day pack also during this trip as we hiked up and down the river to fish. just got the guide lid for a day pack addition so I could leave all my gear in my tahr at camp instead of unloading it for day pack use. I have not used it yet but am sure it will work great. The only thing I would say to make it five star is if it had a dry bag roll top instead of just the snow collar for day pack use but this is still the best pack I've ever used. super comfortable, great quality, worth the investment.
Light, fast, everything you need.

I ordered this because I own the last version the "high camp". This new iteration is even more versatile with a 3rd compression strap, new buckle designs, and a very innovative roll top in addition to reverse compatibility with the old lid design. Similar packs from main stream mass manufactuerers weigh a pound or more than this pack with a frame yet the Bikini frame and this pack carry just as good as any heavier pack design. Currently I use this pack for weekend and overnight ski mountaineering and alpine climbing. It carries an ice axe and skis well with the Kifaru modular ice axe kit, and skis fit into the side compression straps for carry.I simply cannot wait for hunting season to get this pack into the alpine country. Thanks Kifaru, you guys never let me down.
Not so little ..

I was amazed when I got this bag , it seems so much bigger then 3400" but is super sleek and simple, I picked up the spotting scope pocket with it and it makes for a killer set up! This will be my go to bag for over nighters and day hunts and could easily do 3-5 days out of it, so far I am really impressed with this bag!
From MARK DUFFY of MADISON, Wisconsin on 3/13/2016.
so far I haven't been able to take it on a backpack trip yet so keep that in mind but initial impression is just as good if not better than I thought it would be. Its actually bigger than I thought it would be but does compress down to practically nothing if you want it to. I got the spotting scope pocket and a couple medium belt pouches and loaded all my gear and food and can easily get 6 or 7 nights out of it for earlier season stuff. I like that the meat shelf is there but really don't know if it will be necessary as I think the three compression straps would do the trick if you were looking to put meat between the bag and frame. It was also lighter than I thought it would be and with all the different attachment options I really think this is the way to go. My buddy came over to check it out and went home and ordered one that day.
Great all around pack
From Scott Reidy of Kamloops, British Columbia on 12/28/2015.
Got the Tahr to use as a day pack and multi day trips (under 5) I have a large and medium pocket on the front. Compresses very nicely for day hunts and expands very big for the pack out. I'm not even sure I would need the meat shelf, but its there if it is needed. Very light and compact. Definitely recommend this bag to anyone looking for a smaller sized pack for day hunts with the ability to haul out a large volume of meat or gear.
