From Lynn Hansen of Arco, Idaho on 1/15/2017.
Good product works as advertised. Used it several times on different rifles worked great.
Climb free and easy
From Anonymous of Shelby, Michigan on 1/15/2017.
Awesome concept. Love that it frees up my hands for hiking/climbing without sling slipping off my shoulder. Also puts the weight on my hips saving shoulder strain. Only complaint, the metal clip that secures the upper strap ate up my scope cover and edge of my scope because of where it rides. Fixed it with some wraps of duct tape around clip to cushion it, but a little late to save some "beauty" marks on the scope. Otherwise a 5 star
Great when you have a pack/Harness on
From Chip of Fredericksburg, Virginia on 1/9/2017.
I was skeptical when ordering this, but wanted to try something when I carry my pack or climber in. I am super happy with this, it gave me everything I was looking for and far more importantly it doesn't slow down my draw speed much. Highly recommend this product.
Keeps me ready
From Montana Mike of Missoula, Montana on 1/3/2017.
When I first saw this being used on youtube, I knew it was exactly what I needed. I carry a Savage 338 Lapua FCP. It weighs about 12 pounds. I've used several types of slings but this is the one that allows me to carry it all day effortlessly. My last hunt I rode my mountain bike up a gated Forest Service road a few miles. It was uphill the whole way and I was loaded down with my pack and gear. Even with all of this gear, the rifle was so easy to access. I carried a quartered 4 point buck on my back and handle bars, all the while my rifle was still accessible at a moments notice. The muzzle points up in the air and its much harder to accidentally flag your hunting partner with the business end of your rifle. The first time I used this Gun Bearer I hike the steepest mountain that I've ever climbed during a hunt. If I didn't have this sling my hunt would have been miserable. I needed both my hands to help me climb. This would have been almost impossible if I was trying to manage a sling slipping off my shoulder all day. Thank you Kifaru. This product is outstanding.
Super little item
From Grant of Calgary, Alberta on 1/2/2017.
Great item I've used now on my hunting pack. It works as advertised and is now permanently part of my kit. Buy one and you won't be disappointed. Thanks Kifaru!
From Anonymous of Tucson, Arizona on 12/31/2016.
Used this cradle on a 10 day deer hunt in the southern mountains of Tucson. Gun was always secure and always easily accessible while climbing up and down the rugged canyons in the Santa Rita's. I won't go out without it. My whole gang is buying them.

The Universal Gun Bearer allows for hands free carry of your rifle over the toughest terrain while hunting in the Colorado mountains.
From Anonymous of Belgrade, Montana on 12/17/2016.
High quality materials and great functionality. I have used it for backcountry elk hunting in MT and it makes navigating the country much easier. Highly recommended!
From az elkhunter of kingman, Arizona on 12/17/2016.
this product worked just as stated. My rifle stayed secure allowing me to free my hands for glassing. I used this on my Nov. bull elk hunt this year and it worked great. It takes the weight off your shoulder shifting it to your pack. With my regular sling it takes 2 hands to keep it in place, not with this. I look forward to many more years of use. Highly recommend this to anyone.
From Joshua Starkel of Helena, Montana on 12/17/2016.
It is so nice to be hands free while hiking or packing out game, it is a great product.
Fantastic Piece of Equipment
From Anonymous of Northwood, North Dakota on 12/15/2016.
Not sure why I didn't get one of these 10+ years ago. After dealing with slings and webbing that slipped off my shoulder for years while wearing a pack, this was an incredible upgrade. I'll never rifle hunt without one of these again.
Gun Bearers Universal

Works great with my Kuiu pack. Easily swapped over to my other packs.
Just when you thought you were out of options…
From G Rodriguez of Etiwanda, California on 12/11/2016.
I hunt using a freighter pack with a ruck sack strapped to the frame. This allows me to haul heavy loads easily from the field. Unfortunately this setup also makes carrying a rifle over my shoulder pretty much impossible. I found the Universal Kifaru Gun Bearer online and problem solved! I can now use both hands while moving up steep ridges or trekking poles for balancing with heavy loads. One negative is that the shoulder wrap strap buckle that holds the rifle to your chest can be fickle to close. But that’s mainly due to the rubber fabric used to prevent marring to your stock getting caught in the buckle. End result is that this carrier puts your rifle right where it needs to be. No fuss, no muss, no fumbling.
From TH of Thornton, Colorado on 12/10/2016.
I purchased a universal gun bearer for my Elk hunt this season. It Works wonderfully. I absolutely love it. No more aching shoulders at the end of the day.TH
From Anonymous of Seattle, Washington on 12/5/2016.
Everything that is promoted about the gun bearer is accurate! It is made well, its very simple in construction and is easy to use. I dropped one star due to it being a little catchy on the top snap...meaning its not a super quick detachment. It is fast and fairly quiet to pull free! It holds well and evened out the load of the rifle across the hips and back pack vice shoulder. That helped me walk farther, faster with less fatigue on my back and shoulder. That was carrying a 9.5 pound 300 winmag. Suprisingly: Going over and under and through brush was easier. So was going up and down steep grades. I had 2 hands to balance instead of one holding the old shoulder strap....Thanks!
Works as Advertised
From Anonymous of Laramie, Wyoming on 11/27/2016.
I purchased this with only my antelope tag remaining so I can't speak to the gun bearer's performance in the timber, but it performed very well on my antelope hunt. I don't know why I waited this long to purchase one. I was constantly pulling my sling back onto my shoulder anytime I was hunting with my M.R. pack on and this solved that problem. Honestly I think it's faster than using a shoulder sling.
Can tell I had I was hauling a gun
From Anonymous of Vernal, Utah on 11/27/2016.
Great product, very durable and lightweight. The idea of getting your gun in shooting position quickly works very well. Putting on the rifle is a lot easier than other versions. I would have gave it 5 stars but the only issue I had is that if your not careful the gun can come out of the bottom sling when it is bumped from below such as riding a 4 wheeler or a horse or sitting down. Just make sure you watch out. I recommend this.
From Anonymous of Chestertown, Maryland on 11/24/2016.
This gun bearer worked well with my Kuiu 7200 pack. Had to carry with scope forward since it's a big heavy Nightforce but it was quick and comfortable.
Great piece of equipment
From Anonymous of Central, Arkansas on 11/24/2016.
Used a gun bearer to haul a 25 pound .408 Cheytac and a 12 pound .338 Ultra Mag around in some high-steep mountains in Colorado this year. It carried better than any sling I have ever used. I highly recommend this product.
Top 5 hunting accessory
From Anonymous of Meridian, Idaho on 11/24/2016.
The gun bearer exceeded my expectations. I was somewhat skeptical of the positive reviews on these, but they are spot on. There are no options on the market that allow you to carry a rifle with as much comfort and quick access. I don't feel the weight of my gun at all while hauling. Highly recommended.
From Anonymous of Appleton, Wisconsin on 11/22/2016.
This is a kick ass product. Great idea and it functions awesome. I've used it for elk hunting out west, and whitetail hunting in the Midwest. I didn't realize how much I'd like it for whitetail hunting. Makes it really easy to climb tree stands...feels more secure than just having the shoulder strap of your gun over your shoulder. The one thing that I think could be improved is the Velcro that is used to attach the barrel mount of the gun bearer to the shoulder strap on your pack. I fell once while elk hunting and this Velcro actually came apart in the process of my fall. Replacing or improving that Velcro connection would be great.
Universal Gun Bearer
From Tyler of Edwards, Colorado on 11/18/2016.
Best gun bearer that I have used. Great if you plan on using trekking poles but still want quick access to your rifle.
From Rusty of Germantown, Maryland on 11/18/2016.
Great product. The convenience that the product provided was surprising. One observation, the width of the cradle could be about a half inch wider. I have a large leather sling and it was tight getting into the cradle because of the sling stud/sling size combination. It wasn't dysfunctional, just a little "sticky" getting out quickly for shots.
From Anonymous of Maple Ridge, British Columbia on 11/17/2016.
Works well. Took a bunch of trial and error to get 'er hooked up the way I like, but it works as advertised. Happy I made the purchase
From Micky Hafen of Melba, Idaho on 11/14/2016.
First of all thanks to Randy Newberg for showing me this on his hunting shows. I'm much like randy and hate gun slings. With the Hunt pack I use the sling is constantly sliding off. This product is worth its weight in gold! I absolutely love it. I walk for miles hunting and my gun didn't bother me one bit. The release is quick and smooth. Love it. Sold for life.
From Anonymous of red deer, Alberta on 11/13/2016.

Fantastic piece of gear
From Aaron of Corpus Christi, Texas on 11/8/2016.
I am currently using this for my mule deer hunt in Colorado this week. I have the Gun Bearer attached to my Osprey pack, and it is working great! I may have to order a couple more for some of my other packs.

Best purchase I made for my Colorado elk hunt. It made hiking with my rifle 1000x easier and more comfortable!
Great Tool - Recommended
From Ron Weight of West Valleyl, Utah on 11/7/2016.
This is a great tool and a boon to those who hike with a long rifle to carry as well as a backpack. Pros: Simple to use and it works. Takes the load off the shoulder (to some extent). It's safer to carry this way. Frees up both arms to use trekking poles or for other things like balance and climbing.Cons: The upper strap often allowed the gun to twist and that caused some trouble with the scope hitting my arm as I walked/hiked. The upper strap is hard to secure in the perfect place to strap the gun securely without twisting. It still put some weight on my shoulder and after a full day, my right shoulder (it was strapped on the right side) was a bit sore, both from the weight of the pack and a bit from the gun. Still, it was better than before. I used this on a mule deer hunt in Utah and despite the minor issues, it was a real benefit and was much better than carrying it by a sling all day. It never fell off (like it has while carrying it by the sling) and I felt secure with it all the time. I did have a bit of a hard time a few times putting the gun in the cradle. I think it could be designed a little better - maybe bigger or a bit deeper. If the upper strap can be improved to hold better in the right place and not allow the gun to twist, it would be a 5-star, essential piece of equipment. Thanks,Ron
Best gear purchase in a long time
From Stephan Nicolas of Breckenridge, Colorado on 10/22/2016.
This gun carrier is a game changer when hiking steep mountains or going long distances with a heavy pack. Used it this fall for muzzleloader in the Gore Range as well as two weeks in Alaska. Having both hands free when scrambling up steeps or crashing through willows was great. No more having your sling falling off your shoulder or sore arms hand carrying your rifle. 10 out of 10
From Alan White of Missoula, Montana on 10/22/2016.
I bought the gun bearer to do double duty during both bow and rifle season here in Montana. Traditionally, (for over 40 years) I have either carried my bow or used a sling and shouldered my rifle with a sling as well. At 65 now, I find I'm using my trekking poles more often these days, especially traversing blow downs and steep descents. The previous weapon-carry methods just weren't cutting it any more. After several attempts at cobbling together my own versions, I followed my son's advice and got the gun bearer, so glad I did! After a little fussing with attachment locations and fine tuning, I couldn't be more pleased with the performance. Having stepped up to a 50mm objective rifle scope and adding a bi-pod, the scope down method of the gun bearer is needed to comfortably carry and protect against chafe and wear against my pack or my body. Thank you Steve for a simply designed, lightweight and highly functioning tool like the gun bearer! Please continue the great support you and your team provide to backcountry enthusiasts! Many thanks, Alan.
Universal Gun Bearer
From Anonymous of Draper, Utah on 10/21/2016.
Used this on a two day hunting trip this year where I was hiking, climbing, and crawling. This gun bearer was solid! Definitely a great purchase. On top of this Kifaru was excellent to work with on getting this product quickly....amazing customer service!
Gun bearer universal
From Anonymous of Sooke, British Columbia on 10/17/2016.
I took this on my 2 week backpack hunt in northern BC. It took a while to get the hang of strapping in your rifle one handed. Sometimes the protection flap would get stuck in the buckle and wouldn't close properly. And like mentioned above my limbsaver butt pad made it a little more difficult to get in. But once in place it was definitely handy and made hiking with two poles easy. Being in grizzly country I didn't want to strap the gun to my pack. So this gave me the comfort of having it close but not in the way. If you take the time to adjust the angle of the rifle it doesn't get in the way or rub your arms. Which was my concern when buying it. I'll be keeping it on my pack for the rest of my hunts. It works for me
Good, but tight for some stocks
From Robert of Hazard, Kentucky on 10/14/2016.
The quality is great, but I am using it for a tactical style stock (Manners MCS-T) and it just barely fits in the cradle if I put my stock in kind of diagonally. If it was only about an inch wider, it would fit perfect. So, I'm not sure if this is going to work for me or not. Heading out on a hunt next week, so I will see then. I'm guessing that this will not work that great for my application and I will have trouble with my rifle falling out.
Good idea, good product
From Anonymous of Bellingham, Washington on 10/10/2016.
It's good to have your hands free especially negotiating rough terrain and/or using a walking/shooting stick. The only issue I have with the design is the barrel strap concept. Maybe the strap needs to be a few inches longer. I struggled inserting the strap end into the keeper/latch. Tough to do with cold hands or with gloves.
Awesome Bow Carrier!
From Anonymous of Council, Idaho on 10/3/2016.
I bought this to use for my compound bow. It works great. I hunt elk and usually do between 5-10 miles a day. It is really nice to not have to keep my bow in hand while hiking. When in the carrier the bow rides securely at your side. I rest my hand on my 10" stabilizer and feel that my arrows, sight and rest are protected. I even keep it in the carrier when wading through brush. I've also used it to carry a rifle and it works excellent for that as well. This piece of gear is permanently attached to my pack. It's not going anywhere.
From Anonymous of Kimberley, British Columbia on 9/30/2016.
This thing is so handy and way quicker and discreet then a sling. Awesome being able to use my hands all the time especially when getting in the sketchy cliffs and steep areas
Universal Gun Bearer
From Kevin Tabler of Anchorage, Alaska on 9/29/2016.
I have bought 3 at different times and each one came with a little different configuration. The shoulder strap wrap have all been different and required slight modifications to attach to the shoulder strap of my pack. The cradle has come with two different types of fasteners (one velcro and one buckle) I prefer the Velcro. Other than not knowing which model would arrive, I very much like the hands free function of the gun bearer and ability to walk through the alders in Alaska without the brush constantly pulling the rifle off my shoulder.
From MICHAEL MURRAY of Ashland, Wisconsin on 9/22/2016.
I have received the Universal Gun Bearer System and set it up on my Badland Superday Pack. I am getting ready for elk hunting in Colorado Oct 15. I will let you know how it works in the field after my trip. It appears to be very helpful for glassing and using walking sticks in steep situations. If it does not fail in the mountains, I will be extremely happy. If it fails, not happy at all. It appears to be a very good product.
Universal Gun Bearers
From LWT of Eagle, Idaho on 9/22/2016.
Hands free for the first time! Can now go into more vertical real estate with my 9 lb long range titanium rifle with Swarovski scope. Needs adjustments to keep the weight off the shoulder strap by decreasing the height of butt stock pouch. Otherwise downhill hiking painful on back of neck and shoulder on the gun side from the pack's shoulder strap. Suggest that new users have bilateral gun bearers to rotate the rifle from one side to the other during the hike. Forearm strap requires some getting used to in order to buckle. In general a far better system than any I have tried.
Kifaru universal gun bearer-awesome!
From Anonymous of Missoula, Montana on 9/22/2016.
I purchased the universal gun bearer after seeing Randy Newberg use one on his show. I'm just starting to get into backpack hunting and have been pack training with trekking poles, so I wanted a way to carry my rifle and use my poles at the same time, but have my rifle easily accessible. I've yet to hunt with it, but on my training hikes it works awesome. It's out of my way, but super easy to shoulder my rifle quickly. It takes some getting use to having the rifle barrel between my ribs and arm, and my arm rubs on the scope, but I don't think when I've got my layers on I'll hardly notice. I use this with a Horn Hunter Full Curl System pack.
Can Carry Bow also
From BC Hunter of Elk Valley, British Columbia on 9/12/2016.
I purchased the Gun Bearer hoping to be able to use it for my bow as well as rifle. I couldn't find any info anywhere online to see if it was possible but did see one short poor quality video showing a guy walking with one being used with a bow. It works great with the rifle and OK with the bow. Because it isn't designed for a bow it works well but not as well as it could. when going through the thick s#!t the bottom cam gets knocked out of the pocket. If you are walking in open areas and/or on roads it works just as awesome with the bow as rifle. The only reason for the four stars is because it didn't work quite as well for the bow as I was hoping, not Kifaru's fault, as it is a 'GUN' Bearer.
Awesome way to carry your rifle.
From Josh endresen of lake elsinore, California on 9/2/2016.
Never been so easy to carry my rifle on a long hunt. And so easy to get to for quick access. Great product. I would recommend this product for anyone with a pack and a rifle.
butt hang up
From Ian of Gunnison, Colorado on 2/27/2016.
I have been using this during the winter months so I can have my hands free for working around the cliff bands of mesa tops and using ski poles to get through the snow cornices on the leeward side of draws and mesas. It holds the gun too good. I have limbsaver decelerator pads on my rifle and the rifle butts are difficult to remove from the gun bearer.
Universal Gun Bearer works great
From Michael Schoneberger of Bemidji, Minnesota on 2/25/2016.
I have only deployed it a few times but it woks great. This fall will be a true mountain test in Alaska. I am very confident it will work just as well under those conditions. If my guide doesn't have one already, I'm sure he will by the end of the season.
Seems like a great product
From Anonymous of Three Forks, Montana on 1/25/2016.
Just got the universal gunbearer for xmas so I haven't used it a ton. It works as advertised and fits my .300 win mag or .25-06 without needing any adjusting. It fits just fine on my mystery ranch pack as well.
I love mine...
From Rob of Centennial, Colorado on 1/15/2016.
I've used mine with every Kifaru pack I own, from Tailgunner I up through 26" Duplex. It just works well, and isn't noticeable when not carrying a weapon. Only suggestion: design tweak to allow pocket mounting on top of it? That real estate is precious! (admit, could clutter things up)
From David Hay of Edmonton, Alberta on 1/6/2016.
Works well, simple to set up and carried my heavy varmint contoured barrel rifle with ease and deploys nice and smooth. Canadian US exchange rate was a kick in the pants tho no fault to Kifaru
From Ken Arledge of Missoula, Montana on 1/3/2016.
It is a great item, does not fit quite right with some packs, had to empty a side pocket to make it work. It works very well, but is noisy when you unbuckle the top to let the gun down. In a close encounter, could be enough to scare the game? Otherwise is excellent.
From Doug Kary of Billings, Montana on 12/27/2015.
Works great, difficult to place back into butt holder but once in works great. The upper gun holder is difficult in cold weather to re-fasten once released. Overall the carrier makes taking your rifle for walks much easier! and comfortable!
From Anonymous of Rochester, Minnesota on 12/18/2015.
Great add on product for any pack. Kept my rifle secure and out of the way while still able to be shouldered at a moments notice. The upper strap wanted to slide down when the rifle wasn't in it but that is a function of my pack not having a shoulder strap with a narrower or cross strap to hold it in place. Will not pack hunt without it now.
BEST PRODUCT OUT THERE!!
From Anonymous of Helena, Montana on 12/16/2015.
I can't believe I went this long not having one. Gone are the days of fidgeting with my gun on my shoulder. I'm an avid hunter who hunts around 80+ times a year who averages around 10 miles a day per day hiking in the Rocky Mountain. The gun bearer combined with a properly fitted pack transfers all your weight to your hips for more control and less fatigue while walking, which makes it easier to go that extra mile. The design of the release system in my opinion makes it quicker to draw your rifle with less big movement to spook your prey while in close quarters. The height adjustment is great for carrying different size rifles with or without bipods attached. The construction of this product looks to be very heavy duty. You can tell some serious thought went into the construction of this product. You will not be disappointed with purchasing the gun bearer
From Anonymous of Sun Valley, Idaho on 10/21/2015.
I am not one who usually posts reviews for products, but after using my universal Gun Bearer, I thought I needed to. I think this is a great product that makes it easy to carry a rifle with your pack that is quickly accessible. Thank you to it's creators.
From Anonymous of Monarch, Alberta on 10/16/2015.
Used the Universal Gun Bearer for 6 days on a prairie elk hunt last month. Easy to install and easy to use. Far more comfortable than a sling because the weight was on my waist-belt rather than on my shoulder. The rifle always felt secure and always felt accessible. Can't imagine hunting without this!
From Anonymous of Tucson, Arizona on 10/14/2015.
Tried out a new piece of kit on my Newfoundland hunt that I wanted to let you all know about. I'm a old fifty year old that walks like a dottering eighty year old due to my knees. With that in mind I favor using walking sticks for balance and to relieve pressure on my knee. So what to do with the rifle? Slings tend to slide off the shoulder. The rifle scabbard on the pack is too slow to access. Carrying the rifle in your hand makes you give up one of your hiking sticks. It sounded too good to be true but a little company in Colorado makes a gun carry system designed for use in bear country that keeps your hands free until you need your gun and provides quick access. So hearing this I decided to give the Gun Bearer a go. After a week using it all I can say is, I'm a fan! I'll be using this all the time now. Well made, simple, inexpensive, what more could one want? It's evident that a hunter designed this product. Go over to the Kifaru website, or YouTube and check out the video. It may be just what you're looking for.
6/2/2016 – I will be using this to carry a standard length bolt action hunting rifle. Would I use the short or long waistbelt wrap? . . .
Response From Kifaru Intl.: Hi Aaron,The model you will need will be dependent upon the belt that you will be attaching it to. If the belt on your pack is padded then you will want to go with the large. If the belt you are using is a webbing/lash strap style belt you will want to go with size small.
