Great Everyday Pack
From ABevers of Belton, Texas on .
This has been one of the best all around packs I have purchased so far. I have had it for about a year and it has been through the ringer. It is nearly a permanent fixture on my back. Despite this, there are no degradations to any aspects of the pack save for the shoulder straps which I need to upgrade. I do high threat work as a medic overseas so I carry quite a few things necessary for that environment and my job as a medic. It is also an EDC and range bag at home and I use it for my carry-on most of the time when traveling by air. However, fits in a checked duffel nicely when empty if I want to carry more on the plane (I sometimes use the 22 mag for travel). I can fit everything I need inside the dump pouch style inner compartment, to include a couple of small organizer pouches inside the bag. There are three mesh zipper pouches inside. I use the upper zipper on the inside of the lid for random things but I do not use the side zippers frequently as they take away from the space inside the bag and for water bottles or whatever in the two outer pockets. With the side zippers full, replacing a water bottle becomes more cumbersome.
Regularly, there is about 25 lbs of gear in it, for mission, it is closer to 35. I use the 500 D outer pouch that is attached to the four MOLLE style straps on the front of the pack in which I house an enhanced IFAK. The internal frame addition is a must and does not add appreciable weight to the pack. I get a lot of compliments on the design of this bag, has been a good conversation starter as it turns out.
If I were to ask for any revisions to the pack, it would be to add some padding similar to the Antero on the back and upgraded shoulder straps (i wear it so much they have somewhat degraded over the year I have used the pack, but I wear it a lot and often carry at its intended capacity). I absolutely love this pack and it has turned out to be a good investment.
Outstanding All Purpose Pack
From Bill of Manlius, New York on .
What can I say, Kifaru never disappoints me in the quality of their equipment. The material and detail of stitching is outstanding. This pack fits all of my needs. I use it as an EDC, Carry on luggage, Camera pack but most of all for Hunting. Its perfect for tree stands, scouting/glassing and as a day pack. I added the Sherman Pocket, switched the interior pocket to a large belt pocket and installed the Omni Frame to support additional weight. These additions punched this little pack out to about 2000ci in capability. Once packed the Sherman pocket does an excellent job in securing my rifle when needed. I have no trouble in securing my Gunwerks L1 or Christensen Arms Ridgeline heavy barrel rifles when traveling. I use the two compression straps on the pack to secure the barrel and added the compression strap that came with the Sherman pocket for additional insurance. If your searching for a pack that can carry you through the day or a one or two night outing, the Urban Zippy will more than fit those needs. I highly recommend it!
Almost perfect (still bought two)
From Aaron of Stevens Point, Wisconsin on .
I love the layout of this pack more than any other daypack I’ve had. But if I may put in a request or two: this pack needs composite stays like the Door Gunner—I’m not a fan of needing to add in the frame sheet. Also, a moisture wicking back panel and the ability to use an Omni Belt—that would achieve daypack perfection. Either way, still love and highly recommend this pack.
Perfection
From Anonymous of Sacramento, California on .
This pack is perfect. Multiple pouches and the amount of options to configure the pack with all of the connectors is amazing. The pack is lightweight and durable. I have it configured with the grab it and an organizer on the top. I use this pack as my work backpack. The grab it contains a helmet. On the interior of the pack I have my vest with sapi plates/magazines along with approximately 4” of stuff including a large folder /citation book/clip board. The pack still has room for various items in all of the pouches. I was unsure whether or not the pack would be big enough for all of my work gear, but it is the perfect size.
1000D Goodness
From Matthew of Dallas, Texas on .
I previously needed a smaller pack than the one that I normally carry, which is 35L. The decided the Urban Zippy was my choice because it provided all the access points to access either my laptop or DSLR. I went with the 1000D because I like the mental assurance of the stronger and more durable denier material.
Upon receiving the Zippy, the color was FAR better than I could hope for. Unlike the website photos, the OD was very similar to my M65 jacket OD green color. The tan was much closer to a darker coyote. Overall, it looks amazing.
This pack screams durability and practicality. Big enough to hold my necessary gear for class and photography, but small enough to be very portable and manageable. The quality of the materials is outstanding.
Upon closer inspection, there is a thick layer of water resistance on the inside which results in a different feeling compared to the outside. The shoulder straps are very comfortable and after inserting my camera gear and some other stuff, I barely feel like I am carrying a load. All in all, I am unbelievably happy with the pack. I can't wait to use this for many years to come.
Great bushcraft backpack
From Anonymous of Annecy, France on .
My bushcraft backpack. The one that has outclassed all the others. Great features (and accessories) great quality and great look. Neither too sport, neither too military... Just right. Its carrying capacity is perfect to take just "what you real need" for an outdoor week end, or 3 days. I love it !! A special thank to the team Kifaru for this perfect backpack and to your customer service for its seriousness. I live in France and you have always been reactive to my messages and questions and really help me to choose my accessories. Thank you Kifaru.
Awesome pack
From Michael of Huntington Beach, California on .
I bought this pack for a larger edc pack. It works great, carrying everything I need it too. The top pouch is good for easy access to small items. Inside there is another pouch that hangs up high on the back of pack also good for small items.I did not realize this was included. I use without a hip belt which works well for me around town and on my motorcycle.
Love this day pack!!!!
From Mathew M. of Phoenix, Arizona on .
I usually never ever write reviews. But I'm on a road trip and have some time. Bought this thing being a little skeptical, considering cost. Soon as I unboxed the thing, first thing I noticed was quality, everything from the zippers, pockets, shoulder straps, so on and so fourth. I use this thing on daily basis, I basically don't leave the house with out. Like my wife says it's my man purse, I guess you can say that. It's My day bag, keeps everything i need. Pockets are deep, holds a lot of stuff. I recommend buying the back support to hold the pack up right. I use this thing for predator hunting as well/day hiking, etc. if there was only thing I could change about this bag is, a little Velcro pad somewhere to be able to put my own patch on there. I like to customize things with little things like that. I like to sport my American flag everywhere I go. Thanks kifaru keep up the good work. Life long customer writing here.
Perfect EDC!
From Richard Scholl of Bronx, New York on .
I absolutely love this pack, amazing construction, and durability for everyday use and light weight weekend hikes and climbs. I use it with 500D Organizer Pocket and Omni Frame to carry all my gear for work or weekend treks. Really comfortable to wear and expandable to almost any need in an EDC.
Excellent EDC Pack
From Dan M of Glenville, Connecticut on .
Have various packs (Tactical Tailor, Arc Teryx, Osprey) and this one is the best. One big compartment is easy to organize; dark Kryptek camo is distinctive; pack is very well made.
Three things: the straps are a bit wide (even for me at 6'4 210). The side pouches open up into the main compartment, so be careful closing everything. And there are 3-4 zipper openings-- I color-coded each set of zipper tabs with paracord to keep it straight. .
The Perfect EDC
From Richard Scholl of Bronx, New York on .
I was looking for the perfect EDC and I found it in the Urban Zippy. I couldn't be happier with the construction, durability, and usefulness of this pack. Whether I'm in the field, at the range, or in the office it covers all the bases for my EDC needs.
Great EDC
From Alan of Greenville, North Carolina on .
Works as expected.
Only challenge is the shoulder straps would like to have a surface on the underside that would grip a little more when carried with just 1 strap.
Urban Zippy, YES
From S. Bender of Los Alamos, New Mexico on .
Purchased the Zippy for hiking, mine was ordered with the 1000D OD fabric, medium belt pouch and included the frame sheet. I find this to be a shorter pack than I am used to. I'm not able to access water from the pockets w/o removing the pack. (You could opt for a bladder.) The shortness of the pack does provide for cleaner access to items on your belt. For reference, the GI style canteen & cup readily fit in the side pockets, including the plus size Ti GI canteen from Heavy Cover. The top lid provides a great firearm pocket, allowing 4"-5" 1911s. If unsupported from below though, the weight will cause the lid to sag a bit.
The compression straps don't seem to be that useful except to hold a jacket (they are removable). The bungee isn't really very accessible since I now have it covered with a belt pouch - this arrangement does form sort of a sleeve that you can stuff a shirt around/through. It might have been more useful to include straps on the bottom of the bag since the fittings exist there. This is where you might typically keep a mat or large jacket etc. Addition of the medium belt pouch has been very convenient.
I think the web "belt" option is worthwhile. Although it does not support any weight, it will stabilize the pack so your balance is not lost while rock hopping across streams or on loose boulder fields near 14nr peaks.
Construction and material are of the highest quality. Kifaru provides nice velcro keepers so you can roll up excess strap length. Loose straps hitting you in the face during high winds are really annoying but I've never seen this obvious improvement on other packs I've owned.
Comfort is OK, virtually all the weight is on your shoulders, but that's the basic design. Construction and organization seem to encourage adding weight. You're optimum comfort weight will obviously vary with who you are and what you're doing. For climbing at high altitude and morning to evening movement, something around 15lb or less my be optimum. With a frame sheet, this would put you close to 20lbs with the pack weight.
Yes, recommended.
Great day pack!
From Allen Pierce of Shippenville, Pennsylvania on .
Just returned from a trip to Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula. Used the pack everyday whether I was in the city or in the mountains. Very versatile and comfortable. I love the fact I can use this pack in town, hunting whitetail, or strap in to my duplex with a cargo panel and a grab it to carry stands into the woods. Options are endless.

great bag for short trips
My favorite EDC bag!
From Benjamin Duncan of Germantown, Maryland on .
After receiving my Urban Zippy, I have a closet of other bags collecting dust. Some of them were very close to perfect, but the Urban Zippy not only nails "perfect for me", but also adds some things I didn't know I needed or wanted until I have them.
I own a sizable number of pullouts in different sizes and they're a perfect companion for the Zippy. I have several Large mesh pull-outs in layers in the main compartment and can quickly ID and pull out only what I need, when I need it. I can't stress how awesome that is with the side access. Need something? I open a side wing, pull out the pullout with the item, stuff the pullout back in and zip it all back up again. I very rarely ever use the top lid since the side access is so handy.
Couple of additional notes after some trial and error for the perfect configuration:
- I use a 500D organizer over the bungie. Between the organizer and the lid pocket, I have quick access to things like keys, gloves, flashlight, hand sanitizer, etc.
- I use a Grab-It II over the organizer. I have the top straps affixed to both sides of the pack with slotted female buckles and then standard male buckles on the straps. I've found this configuration to allow for the quickest and easiest access to the organizer and the side pockets when I need it, while also allowing for the versatility of the Grab-It. With two small boys, I find the Grab-It to be far more useful than the compression straps. They're always handing me a jacket, a hat, a toy or something, and with the Grab-It, I can usually securely lash it to the bag without adjusting straps or opening the pack itself.
- Because of the above point, I will likely remove the compression straps, but haven't yet. They really haven't gotten in the way yet. I've kept them, because I do keep two side zip long pockets at the bottom of the pack in case I need quick, substantial extra capacity, and would lash those down with the compression straps.
I love this bag. Ridiculously so. My wife took a picture of me jokingly hugging my UZ and it's now my profile pic almost everywhere.
Worth the wait
From Anonymous of Charleston, West Virginia on .
The Urban Zippy is about the highest quality pack I've seen for its size! Bought the organizer as well- you have to spend the extra for it! My only concern is that it takes a while to get your gear and customer service isn't as responsive as I would expect for paying such a premium price. Would I buy again? ABSOLUTELY- you won't find better workmanship! I just expect a higher level of service when you spend like this.

I purchased an Urban Zippy as a birthday gift for my son. When it arrived I liked it so much I decided I needed one for myself and ordered another. My son is most pleased with his Urban Zippy as well. The folks at Kifaru were very cordial and helpful. Everything was exactly as promised, great quality at a very fair price. Excellent company and excellent product.
My Urban Zippy
From Mike of Brooksville, Florida on .
Just completed a day hike using my new urban zippy and would say I'm quite pleased so far. I had it packed pretty heavy and it seemed to handle the load with out any problems. I added the omni frame sheet from the get go which added the rigidity I like in a pack. With all the interior and exterior pockets it makes it a breeze to keep your bag organized. It's a great bag for a day hike anything more than that you might consider something larger.

Well I really must say I was hesitant to spend so much on a small backpack such as this.
However I could not be more pleased in this purchase, extremely well made, well thought out, it is perfect for edc or for overnight travel.
I purchased the frame insert which I believe will be helpful when carrying a lot of stuff. I found the folks in customer service extremely helpful. I would definitely purchase other products from kifaru again.
Excellent pack
From Christopher of Montgomery, Alabama on .
I really appreciate that the main compartment is accessible from the top and bottom which makes it easy to get to things without dumping it all out.
The only things that I would've liked is padding on the back and a longer elastic on the front as my bulky jacket doesn't easily fit.
Another great product

I use this as my carry on bag working overseas. Size is perfect. I added the Omni frame sheet and it works great to add support for when I stuff my 15" laptop in the bladder pocket.
Great All-around Pack
From Nathan of Plant City, Florida on .
Originally purchased this in Kryptek Typhon with the organizer pouch and was very pleased with the all-around usefulness of this pack. When it came out in Grey I purchased another and also bought two frame sheets and now they are both perfect for my daily use. I'm still amazed at how much stuff you can get into this pack!

Its a great day pack. I ordered it with the omni support and it doesn't really need it. For the price it should come with an organizer pocket, it could really use one. I will have to probably order one. It is a 5 star pack but i only gave it 4 because of the cost and no organizer pocket.

An Awesome Surprise
From Denise of Edmonton, Alberta on .
I have to be honest with my review. When my husband, an avid Kifaru fan/purchaser, told me that he was going to be buying me an Urban Zippy in Typhon with the matching organizer, I thought that he was crazy. I mean, what on earth was I going to do with this pack?
The answer is, everything! This pack has gone to work with me, on hikes around a National Park to even being my sole piece of luggage for a weekend trip to Seattle. This pack is very versatile and has a lot of storage for it's size. The padded straps are comfy and don't dig into my shoulders when I'm hiking or sight-seeing. The multitude of pockets and options for said pockets is a delight.
All in all, I'm extremely happy with this purchase/gift and I know that he has now made me a fan of Kifaru as well :)

I bought this bag for everyday use. It is perfect! I was most impressed with the customer service I received and their friendly and helpful reps. I had to change the shipping destination after the product was already shipped. The Kifaru team helped me out with a great attitude about the change and really went the extra mile.

Wow! What a perfect backpack for day trips! The zippers NEVER get stuck and work amazingly. Very high quality all around...the side pockets are very easy to access and a great idea. The shoulder straps were so comfortable they made me laugh when I went on my first hike. The buckles are about 1000 times higher quality plastic then any pack I've ever touched. I couldn't be happier, worth every penny. I've been a Wilderness Ranger in MT, covered thousands of miles of trail on dirt bike in the west- I've used a lot of outdoor gear. Trust me, you'll be happy with anything you buy from these guys.

Excellent Travel Pack
From Richard Holland of Overland Park, Kansas on .
I travel internationally 3-5 times a year and needed a backpack that would work in conjunction with, and sometimes instead of, my Filson briefcase. I’ve been looking at the UZ since it came out, but had some reservations- Big enough? Enough pockets/compartments? Enough structural integrity (based on some forum comments)?
I just returned from three weeks in Africa (unfortunately not to hunt) and gave the Urban Zippy a pretty good test. Let me summarize by saying that none of my concerns proved to be legitimate.
It was great on the plane. It easily fits under the seat if needed. The mesh pockets were perfect for the gear I segregated. I used medium, mesh pullouts that fit into the pockets as well as into the external water bottle pockets. In fact, there were more pockets than I needed but their presence did not inhibit storage. The pocket on top was really helpful to keep things for which I needed immediate access.
Here are some adjustments I made to my UZ in Foliage Green:
• Removed compression straps. They are not that helpful on a pack this size.
• Added an organizer. Super helpful for pens, medicines, passport, etc.
• Kept a small pod in the bottom of the pack for expansion, which I used coming home. This made a significant difference to the capacity when I needed it. I highly recommend adding one for travel.
• I bought the frame sheet, but did not need it. Maybe I’ll use it sometime, but the contents provided enough structure that I could not justify the extra weight or space.
As for comfort, the Urban Zippy was comfortable to wear over one shoulder or both. I used it on the plane, on a safari, walking around shopping malls, and sightseeing.
Bottom line is that I love it. I would buy it again without hesitation. Now that I’m back from Africa, I’m using it for a possibles kit in my truck. Hope these thoughts are helpful.

I am just getting used to my new pack. Its many storage options encourage you to plan your loading & then enjoy the speed & variety of ways the pack allows of efficiently accessing the contents. Comfortable with a light or heavy load. Just the right size for the many varied loads I have so far wanted to use it to carry. You feel a pride of ownership every time you see it or use it. The build quality is really fantastic, every square inch is well finished, every component is top quality. I am really happy with my purchase
very pleased, but........
From Matt of Stoke, England on .
On the whole, I'm very pleased with a very good pack. designed well and with plenty of options for access for a day-to-day civilian carry pack. I would like to see the pack with a 1000d cordura base though as this is the area that receives most wear and tear from day to day use. It would also be nice for an optional rigid insert to give the pack some structural rigidity when not packed.

The perfect EDC bag
From Timbo of Small Town, Iowa on .
Yes, I know this is a lot of money to spend on a day pack, but this one is worth every penny. All in all, the Urban Zippy is a well designed, well built, well thought out everyday carry bag.
The quality of the materials, along with the 'bullet proof' construction you've come to expect from Kifaru, means you'll never have to worry about this pack failing you when you need it most.
The design is also excellent, giving you several options for getting into the bag as well as plenty of attachment options without all the webbing. I added an organizer to mine with no issues, but you can add long pockets or claymore pouches to fit your needs as well.
The only thing I should note here is that the picture currently on the website is of a pre-production bag. The final version does not have the velcro attachment point on top of the lid. Not a big deal, but something you should know about.
I have no doubt the Urban Zippy will be on my shoulders for a long time to come.
